“Datterino and Ciliegino are two varieties of tomatoes that are very popular for their sweetness, versatility and organoleptic characteristics. In addition to fresh products, we also offer artisanal sauces in different formats under the Ferrera brand ”, said Salvatore La Porta, General Manager of L’Ortofrutticola F., during the interview on the processed products presented at TuttoFood Milano 2021 .

The Ortofrutticola F benefits from an experience in the sector consolidated over the years and represents a reliable company in the processing and marketing of high quality fruits and vegetables. All the productions come from controlled cultures of the territory of Niscemi and the neighboring regions of Sicily. The assortment includes fresh products typical of the territory, such as tomatoes, artichokes, peppers, eggplants, zucchini, watermelons and yellow melons, intended for the wholesale markets and the large Italian and foreign retail trade.

“The idea to launch a range of processed tomatoes comes from observing market trends which, in the ready-to-use sauces segment, show a high level of appreciation for high-end processed products with a chain controlled supply. sauces to use, natural and not altered by thermal processes at high temperature. The result is a product which, although simple and containing only one ingredient (tomatoes), offers incomparable sweetness, lingering flavor and taste.

Ortofrutticola F is a growing company specializing in the production of fresh produce. One of its strengths is working in synergy with producers and a team of agronomists.

The company’s factory is equipped with processing lines and refrigeration cells suitable for handling large quantities of products. The company covers an indoor area of ​​3,000 square meters and an outdoor area of ​​15,000 square meters, used for loading and unloading goods.

Summer fruits and vegetables are grown both in the open field and in greenhouses. The areas intended for the production of protected crops are around 200 hectares, with productions such as tomatoes, eggplants, zucchini. About 400 hectares are allocated to field crops, 80% of which are dedicated to the cultivation of artichokes of different varieties.

“We produce large quantities of tomatoes for the fresh market, including vine tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, piccadilly, date tomatoes, green tomatoes type S200, Merinda and green oblong tomatoes. We are talking about 9,000 tonnes of product which, together with the production of artichokes, represents an important segment of the company’s turnover. Among the future projects, there is that of expanding the range of red products processed with other varieties of tomatoes typical of our territory, ”explained Salvatore La Porta.

The processed products are obtained from tomatoes grown 12 months a year in a sustainable manner with careful management of water resources and agronomic interventions aimed at obtaining high quality production in terms of taste and sugar content.

“The processed products are proving to be much more rewarding than expected, in Italy and especially abroad.

Ortofrutticola F has obtained GlobalGAP quality management system certification for fresh and processed products. The range of products is guaranteed by the following quality certifications: IFS, BRC, KOSCHER, ORGANIC.

With a turnover that has tripled in the last three years and an export share of 20%, L’Ortofrutticola F is present on the world markets.
